EDA Grant Expected to Create 1,000 Jobs and Generate $60 Million in Private Investment

WASHINGTON - U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke today announced a $4.7 million Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to the Whitewater Community Development Authority, the city of Whitewater, and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, to help build the Whitewater University Technology Park and Innovation Center. The project is expected to create 1,000 jobs and generate $60 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.

"The Obama Administration is committed to creating jobs, encouraging innovation and improving our nation's economic competitiveness," Locke said. "This grant will provide the critical infrastructure needed to build the Whitewater University Technology Park, a workforce training center and business incubator that will enhance employee job training opportunities and develop new technology-based enterprises to grow and diversify the region's economy."
