U.S. EDA Partners with California State University to Create Jobs, Strengthen Regional Economy

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration (EDA) today announced a $135,000 grant to the Chico Research Foundation at the California State University, Chico to support the operation of the University Center economic development technical assistance program.

The University Center program provides local government, tribes, nonprofit organizations, and the private sector with resources to better analyze the economic needs of local communities.

"The Obama Administration supports the innovative research and development that takes place at our nation's colleges and universities," said U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development John R. Fernandez. "This EDA grant will work to advance regional competitiveness by spurring innovation and entrepreneurship, and creating higher-skill, higher-wage jobs in Chico."

"The Center for Economic Development has achieved a long list of accomplishments designed to make the North State more competitive, including providing guidance on regional economic development issues; utilizing University their leadership as an agent of the University; embracing and promoting principles of innovation and entrepreneurship; and supporting strong partnerships among the business sector, relevant area partners, and local, state, and federal government," said University President Paul J. Singg.

The University Center will provide technical and marketing support for clients in the public and private sectors; undertake applied research for businesses and public organizations; and disseminate information.
