U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1 Million to Develop Business Park in Port Clarkston, Washington

Senators Murray and Cantwell Support Investment to Expand and Promote Manufacturing

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) today announced a $1.4 million Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to the Port of Clarkston, Washington, for the development of a sustainable business park with a focus on manufacturing. The project is expected to create 130 jobs and attract $38 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.

"The Obama administration is committed to making investments that support America's manufacturing capacity," said Acting Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Matt Erskine. "This investment will support the growth of an established boatbuilding cluster and will allow the Port of Clarkston to attract employers in other growing manufacturing sectors. This will bring new jobs and help ensure the long-term economic vitality of this region."

"I am so pleased Port of Clarkston will be receiving this support," said Senator Patty Murray. "This is an important investment for the port and the community, and will bring new jobs to the region."

"This is a big win for the growth of businesses and jobs in Southeast Washington," said Senator Maria Cantwell. "This investment will support the Port of Clarkston's continuing growth as a hub for innovation and manufacturing jobs."

The EDA investment helps fund the purchase of land and the design and construction of a new Sustainable Business Park. Sustainability practices will be incorporated into all aspects of the site, including building specifications and tenant operations. The Port of Clarkston is the furthest inland of Washington's port districts. The new business park will help catalyze regional growth in southeastern Washington and will strengthen initiatives to increase exports, enhancing the region's global competitiveness.
