U.S. Economic Development Administration Invests $465,000 to Improve Infrastructure to Serve Businesses in Wellsville, New York

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) today announced a $465,000 grant to make critical infrastructure improvements needed to meet demand for public water from businesses in Wellsville, New York.

“EDA works closely with communities like Wellsville to help them plan and execute their locally-developed strategies to increase job-creating private investment,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Matt Erskine. “This EDA investment will enable existing businesses to increase capacity and hire new employees, which will benefit the entire region.”

Industry concentration in the Village of Wellsville is along NY State Route 417, which runs through the center of town. There is currently no public water infrastructure to specifically serve businesses. The EDA investment will support the construction of a public water line to benefit businesses in the region, which would help them retain nearly 650 jobs and create nearly 20 more, according to grantee estimates.
