U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1 Million to Help Expand Oklahoma’s Elk City Industrial Park

WASHINGTON - U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker today announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding $1 million to Elk City, Oklahoma, to provide critical infrastructure needed to expand a city-owned industrial park. The investment is expected to create up to 100 jobs, according to grantee estimates.

"The Obama Administration is committed to helping set the conditions that enable communities to create jobs and be competitive in today’s global economy,” said Secretary Pritzker. “The EDA grant announced today will help Elk City make needed infrastructure upgrades which are crucial to both grow the local economy and attract new investment in the region.”

In 2005, Elk City began developing a new 162-acre industrial park, which has created hundreds of new jobs in the area. In 2013, the city purchased 130 additional acres to expand the park, which had reached full capacity. The new site needs several infrastructure upgrades in order to meet current demand and grow. The EDA grant will support the construction of a rail spur and switches, water and wastewater system installation, and road improvements.
