U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1.5 Million to Help Quinault Indian Nation Upgrade Critical Infrastructure

WASHINGTON - U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker today announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding $1.5 million to the Quinault Indian Nation to upgrade the Queets, Washington, fish processing facility.

“The Obama Administration is committed to supporting tribal communities through economic development,” said Secretary Pritzker. “The EDA investment announced today will help the Quinault Indian Nation make upgrades to a facility necessary for boosting the fishing industry and strengthening the community.”

EDA’s investment will add new equipment and upgrades to the area’s fish processing facility. This project will build on the use of the region’s natural resources as an economic engine by providing a fully functional manufacturing facility. According to grantee estimates, this project will create 30 full-time jobs and help grow the fishing industry in the rural area.
