Award Amount |
$290,600 |
This project will examine the feasibility of establishing a northern Palm Beach County (NPBC) science and research park. Included in the analysis is an examination of the competitive landscape, including supply and demand for science park space and of operating requirements, including development costs, operating costs, and expected revenue.
The northern part of Palm Beach County is unique in being considered for a park because it is already home to an emerging life sciences and related industry cluster along the North Palm Beach County Life Science Corridor, which is anchored by two renowned research institutes – The Scripps Research Institute and Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience. These institutes are located in the Town of Jupiter, Florida on the John D. MacArthur Campus of Florida Atlantic University.
The Research Park will be complementary to a NPBC park, if established, given its ties with Technology Business Incubator (TBI) which assists technology start-up and the companies that can help deliver health care developed in northern Palm Beach County to consumers. In addition the Research Park will be complementary given its ties with Florida Atlantic University (FAU), the medical school and its collaboration with Palm Beach State College (PBSC) and the PBC School District K-20 STEM education and talent are focused on to insure an adequate life science and biotechnology workforce in the future.
The applicant estimates that within the first 5 years, assuming feasibility is determined, a total of 200 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees are projected. These are considered direct employees of businesses operating within the 60,000 square feet of the first phase of the science and research park.
