A college town located in the heart of Utah’s Wasatch Front, Provo is perhaps not the first city most people would think of as a center for the rapidly growing international aviation maintenance industry. Yet with a highly skilled workforce at the heart of a thriving aeronautics and defense cluster, Provo is in a prime position to be a world leader in the aviation industry.

When a large, multinational aviation repair business was looking to expand its footprint at the Provo Airport, the City needed to improve its airport infrastructure in order to seize the opportunity. In September 2014, EDA awarded $3.5 million to the Provo City Corporation to support improvements to increase access to the airport’s service bay hangers and taxi lanes, enabling the development of a new $45 million maintenance facility at the airport. In addition to serving as a catalyst for expansion and development of other airport infrastructure, this new facility will create added capacity to accommodate growth in international clients from Asia and the Pacific Rim. Grantees expect the project to create approximately 600 high-skilled, high-wage jobs and lead to more than $65 million in private investment.
