2018 EDA FEVS Analysis
EDA is pleased to provide you with the following analysis of our 2018 FEVS results. The results are located on this site as EDA 2018 AES.
Participation: 165 Economic Development Administration (EDA) employees were notified by email of the survey; of those, 142 employees responded for an 86.1% response rate, an increase of 7.4% from 2017. This compares favorably with the government-wide response rate of 40.6% and Department of Commerce overall response rate of 55.4%. This response rate continues EDA’s trend of outstanding participation for the past five years.
Highlights: By every indication, EDA continues to show improvements in FEVS. We improved again in 2018, with a relatively consistent upward trend since 2013. These results validate that actions we have been taking are positively impacting our workforce and our organizational health. Some of the highlights include:
- Strengths - 46 of the 71 core items/questions had Positive scores of 65% or higher in 2018, classifying them as strengths. This is a substantial increase from 28 in 2016, and also an increase from 42 in 2017.
- Challenges – Two items/questions had Negative scores of at least 35%, classifying them as challenges in 2018. Five items were classified as challenges in 2017, and nine in 2016, another indicator of improvement.
- FEVS Indices:
- Employee Engagement remained unchanged in the categories of “Supervisors” and “Intrinsic Work Experience,” however the “Leaders Lead” category improved.
- Global Satisfaction remained unchanged for the first time since 2014.
- The New IQ (Diversity and Inclusion) improved for the fifth year in a row.
Organizational Health: EDA is committed to using the FEVS results and other performance indicators to continuously improve EDA’s organizational health for our employees and the communities we serve. Many of our ongoing projects and initiatives to improve EDA’s work environment, customer-focus, and employee engagement will continue, some will be enhanced, and others will be added. Our improvement process is a journey we all must take together.
