U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1.2 Million to Expand Vocational Workforce Training Opportunities in Indiana

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur L. Ross, Jr., today announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.2 million grant to Ivy Tech Community College of Indianapolis, Indiana, to renovate an existing warehouse facility to house the college’s Precision Agricultural Equipment Technology Center of Excellence (Center). According to the grantee, the project is expected to help create 127 jobs.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, the Department of Commerce will ensure that the training of American workers is not overlooked,” said Secretary Ross. “Ivy Tech Community College fills an invaluable role in providing Indiana businesses as well as the local agriculture industry with a top-notch labor force.”

This grant will allow the Center to provide training in geospatial technology related to crop planting, fertilization, harvesting, and other farming operations. With these skills, the project will strengthen Indiana’s position as a global leader in workforce development, job creation and workplace advancement for the agriculture industry.
