U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $600,000 to Redevelop Industrial Site in Providence, Rhode Island

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $600,000 grant to the city of Providence, Rhode Island, to make infrastructure improvements needed to help redevelop a formerly contaminated industrial site for use by food production, processing and other commercial industries. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create 360 jobs and generate $25 million in private investment.
“Increasing capacity to serve businesses is a valuable benefit to our communities,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Dennis Alvord. “We commend Providence for their work to boost their local industrial capabilities.”
EDA’s investment will help construct new infrastructure, including site access and utility improvements, to support the redevelopment of the environmentally-remediated industrial site.
