U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $534,237 to Make Water Infrastructure Improvements Needed to Support Business Growth in Gladwin

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $534,237 grant to the city of Gladwin, Michigan, to help build a new water treatment facility that will better serve local business interests. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create or retain more than 140 jobs and generate $330,000 in private investment.
“We commend the city of Gladwin on their efforts to provide the critical infrastructure businesses need to grow and thrive,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Dennis Alvord. “This project will make existing businesses more competitive and will help to attract new private investment to the city.”
The new water treatment facility will be designed to remove iron and hydrogen sulfide that is naturally occurring within the city's water supply. The improvements are expected to help lower operating costs for existing and future businesses, facilitate the use of more sophisticated manufacturing equipment by these businesses, make them more competitive, and enable them to grow and expand.
