U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $2.9 Million for Roadway Infrastructure Needed to Support Business Development in Highland, California

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross today announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2.9 million grant to the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians of Highland, California, to make critical roadway improvements required to further develop the infrastructure of the region. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create 394 jobs, and spur $23 million in private investment.

“After years of neglect, President Trump has emphasized the crucial need to rebuild and revitalize American infrastructure,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. “The new roads providing access to the airport and commercial zone in Highland will support local business needs and create new job opportunities for the community.”

The project supports the local 3rd Street and 5th Street Corridor improvement initiative and will include the construction of two new roadways to support access to the local airport and commercial zone in the vicinity of the San Manuel Reservation. The improved infrastructure will increase capacity for businesses located in the region while providing high-paying employment opportunities for the local workforce.
