U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $2 Million to Support Road Improvements in Saginaw, Michigan; Will Generate $6.5 Million in Private Investment

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross today announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2 million grant to the Saginaw County Road Commission of Saginaw, Michigan, to improve Dixie Highway in Bridgeport Township. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create 54 new jobs and generate $6.5 million in private investment.

“The Trump Administration is committed to creating new opportunities in communities across the country through infrastructure investments,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. “The improved Dixie Highway will support local businesses in Saginaw and help to attract new companies to the area.”

“Local, state and federal resources are all needed to modernize our infrastructure and keep our economy on a solid path for the future,” said Governor Rick Snyder. “I appreciate this investment from our federal partners to help make this roadway more efficient for residents, visitors and the flow of commerce.”

The project will reconstruct and expand 1.2 miles of Dixie Highway in Bridgeport Township between two major roads. The highly trafficked transportation route will promote increased road capacity and will ensure a more efficient flow of commerce for the region.
