U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1 Million to Build a Manufacturing and Training Facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1 million grant to the Partnership for Community Action of Albuquerque, New Mexico, to construct the Social Enterprise Center, a new manufacturing and training facility. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create 43 new jobs and support local workforce training.

“The American manufacturing sector has experienced a new revival under the agenda set by the Trump Administration,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. “This new development in Albuquerque will lend the tools businesses need to compete and thrive in the global economy.”

This investment will help construct the 15,370 square-foot training facility, which will support professional development, direct manufacturing and assembly of textiles, entrepreneurship training, as well as workforce education. The Social Enterprise Center will provide resources to help unemployed and underemployed individuals obtain necessary skills to grow a competitive workforce. This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Mid-Region Council of Governments. EDA funds the Mid-Region Council of Governments to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment, and create jobs.
