U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $661,944 to Support Workforce Development Efforts in Lewiston, Idaho

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $661,944 grant to Independent School District No. 1 of Lewiston, Idaho, to provide the equipment needed to support its student-to-work Career and Technical Education (CTE) training programs. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to help create or retain more than 385 jobs and spur more than $9 million in private investment.

“This innovative program will allow students to gain the skills needed to compete in the global economy as well as support the growth of the local business community,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Dennis Alvord. “We commend the Independent School District on their efforts to strengthen the regional workforce.”

The project will help Lewiston’s Independent School District No. 1 expand CTE programs offering training in fields such as engineering, precision machinery, auto mechanics, construction, and health occupations. The student training will help local industries expand operations and attract new businesses to the Lewiston area.
