Village Capital, in collaboration with the Black Innovation Alliance (BIA) as a sub-awardee, will launch Resource Invests, an initiative to develop an investment infrastructure to mobilize capital for technology startups in the Southeast region of the United States.
The program will build on Resource – an ongoing multi-year collaboration between Village Capital and BIA that provides direct operational funding, critical capacity-building, and a community for entrepreneur support organizations (ESOs) led by and serving communities of color. Resource Invests will provide the critical investment capital to invest in startups that have been sourced and supported by the ESO participants.
Through Resource Invests, Village Capital and BIA will collaborate with the participating Resource ESOs to:
- Design and launch the investment infrastructure and associated vehicle to invest capital in scalable technology startups, structured to address capital gaps and other structural barriers facing entrepreneurs.
- Equip ESOs that demonstrate place-based expertise with the tools, resources, and investment infrastructure needed to deploy investment capital in the region.
A key component of Resource Invests is to provide Resource ESO participants with investment capital to deploy through a "venture partner" model, providing them a track record in direct investing and aligning economic incentives. Resource Invests will foster a globally competitive, resilient regional economy in the Southeast through investment activity that will help grow scalable technology startups and increase access to entrepreneur-ready capital.
