This EDA investment supports the LifeX Life Science Startup Hub (LLSSH) and builds on a previous EDA i6 Challenge award that allowed LifeX to establish a life science focused accelerator and incubator program in the Western Pennsylvania region that has directly supported 50 companies over the past four years. With this award, LifeX aims to scale the existing Accelerator and Commercialization Program in both capacity and geography, and to create a focal hub for life science entrepreneurial activity across the Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Mid-Atlantic region. This effort seeks to draw in broad and diverse networks of talent, domain expertise, investors, and corporate partners to support the growth of local startups and establish this region as a robust and leading life science and healthcare innovation ecosystem. Additionally, a strong emphasis will be on identifying and developing the talent pools required to support the growth of regional life science startups, both in entry level and leadership level talent.
This project will focus on:
- Scaling the existing Accelerator and Commercialization Program to increase capacity and geographic focus;
- Establishing a regional hub for life science entrepreneurship events, activities, and resources to attract and effectively engage talent, expertise, investors, and corporate networks from inside and outside the region;
- Developing an engaged talent pool by educating and connecting talent with life science startup job opportunities; and,
- Developing a robust layer of life science startup leadership talent by fostering young leaders and facilitating opportunities for experienced talent to work with and join burgeoning life science startups.
