This EDA investment will support Southern Research’s Station 41 Biotechnology Commercialization Hub which support’s Birmingham’s commercialization infrastructure through its biotechnology sector-focused commercialization programs and resources. Station 41’s three programs – the Station 41 Accelerator, Station 41 Venture Studio, and Station 41 Incubator – will provide shared wet lab space, equipment, and entrepreneurial support programming for early-stage biotechnology startups. In addition, Station 41 seeks to promote economic growth, enhance resiliency, contribute to the development of a highly skilled workforce, attract private investment, and support equitable economic development in an area that has experienced several natural disasters, underemployment, and decline of major industries over the past decade. Grant funding will purchase critical equipment and supplies, and support program operation requirements for implementing Station 41 programs.
