The Newark Builds Newark Recompete Plan, led by the city of Newark, requests approximately $20 million to connect residents to good jobs created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. With projects like the approximately $6.9 billion Gateway Project getting underway, the Finalist aims to bring training and comprehensive wraparound supports to residents by building a 35,000 square foot Center of Excellence for the building trades in downtown Newark, with Carpenters Union 253 serving as the anchor tenant. The city lags behind its wealthier neighbors, with younger residents and residents of color experiencing disproportionately low levels of employment. By building a physical training presence and providing wraparound supports in downtown Newark, the Finalist aims to ensure all residents benefit from historic federal investments in the region.
