South-central Idaho has been an attractive area for companies to expand. However, the region lacked workers trained in cutting-edge technologies that these companies needed.

The Applied Technology and Innovation Center (ATI Center) at the College of Southern Idaho trains students in programs ranging from food technology and processing to industrial maintenance systems; from drafting and programmable logic controllers to renewable energy systems technology and computer aided design.

In January 2011, EDA awarded $4.4 million in Public Works funds to build the ATI Center. The project was completed in May of 2015.

As of March 2017, the ATI Center has successfully trained over 600 students who have obtained degrees, or certificates. Additionally, the ATI Center aided Cliff Bar in hiring and training 300 new employees, and the Center has assisted over 50 other students in finding employment.
