U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1.4 Million to Support Economic Development Planning Activities in California

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.4 million grant to the Executive Office of the State of California (California GO-Biz), Sacramento, California, to support statewide economic planning activities. This EDA project will be matched with $337,500 in local funds.

“President Biden is committed to helping communities bolster their critical and emerging industries to improve regional economies across the nation,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo. “This EDA investment in California GO-Biz will expand local economic development and encourage entrepreneurship to help get Californians back to work.”

“The Economic Development Administration plays an important role in supporting community-led strategies to build robust and resilient economies,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. “This project will support the California GO-Biz program aligning statewide economic development goals and activities to bolster California’s unique regional economies and create good-paying jobs.”

“California is grateful for this investment, which will back the statewide business and economic development planning efforts of CA GO-Biz to help keep our economy strong,” said Governor Gavin Newsom. “I thank the Biden Administration for its commitment to supporting the ongoing recovery of our resilient communities.”

“As we continue to Build Back Better, we must seize every opportunity to create American jobs and strengthen California’s growing economy,” said Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06). “That means making critical investments in our regional innovators by giving them the tools to foster economic development and build up our local communities. Grants and partnerships like these between EDA and California GO-Biz are essential to getting resources and opportunities where they are needed most.”
