U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1.8 Million to Improve Stormwater Infrastructure and Support Business Growth in Sebring, Florida
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.8 million grant to the Sebring Airport Authority, Sebring, Florida, for stormwater drainage improvements at Sebring Regional Airport’s Multimodal Logistics Center.
This EDA project will increase the region’s capacity to create and grow new businesses in the aviation industry. The EDA investment will be matched with $457,552 in local funds, is expected to create 214 jobs, retain 345 jobs, and generate $36 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.
“President Biden is committed to supporting communities across the country as they work to grow their local economies,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “This EDA investment will provide the infrastructure to facilitate expansion of the region’s aviation sector and create new economic opportunity and jobs for local citizens.”
“The Economic Development Administration is pleased to support the Sebring Airport Authority in its efforts to create new business opportunities,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. “This investment will broaden and grow the local economy, while building economic resiliency in the region for decades to come.”
This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Central Florida Regional Planning Council (CFRPC). EDA funds CFRPC to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
