U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $2 Million for Infrastructure Improvements to Support Business Expansion in Danville, Kentucky

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2 million grant to the city of Danville, Kentucky, for water and sewer infrastructure upgrades in an industrial commercial corridor.

This grant will support expansion of the local industrial sector and a major aerospace manufacturing facility. This EDA investment, to be matched with $3.7 million in local funds, is expected to create more than 440 jobs and generate $413 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.

“The Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America agenda is catalyzing business growth by making much-needed infrastructure upgrades,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “This EDA investment will allow existing businesses to expand, create critical, in-demand jobs, and build economic resiliency in the region.”

“The Economic Development Administration is pleased to partner with the city of Danville to modernize and expand its commercial infrastructure, helping to further diversify the region’s economic opportunities,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. “This EDA project upgrades critical infrastructure that will ensure that industrial users have the water and sewer services they need to operate their businesses along the commercial corridor.”

This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Bluegrass Area Development District (BGADD). EDA funds BGADD to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
