U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $2 Million to Support Disaster Resiliency and Economic Growth in Canton, North Carolina
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2 million grant to the city of West Lafayette, Indiana, for wastewater treatment infrastructure improvements to support semiconductor manufacturing in the region.
This grant will increase capacity at the Purdue Research Park to support construction of a semiconductor manufacturing facility. This EDA investment will be matched with $2 million in local funds and is expected to create 400 jobs and generate $20 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.
“The Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America Agenda provides critical infrastructure upgrades to ensure that local communities can attract private investment and good-paying jobs,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “This EDA investment in West Lafayette, Indiana will help strengthen strategic domestic supply chains by re-shoring semiconductor manufacturing and enhancing U.S. global competitiveness and national security.”
