U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1 Million for Infrastructure Improvements to Support Growth at Business Park in Dumas, Texas

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1 million grant to the Dumas Economic Development Corporation, Dumas, Texas, for infrastructure improvements to the Dumas Business Park to support business growth. This EDA project, to be matched with $1.2 million in local funds, is expected to create 105 jobs and generate $3 million in private investment.

“President Biden supports the creation of stronger and more resilient regional economies across the country,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo. “This EDA investment will provide needed infrastructure improvements to attract new manufacturing, warehousing, and other businesses to the Texas Panhandle, diversifying and strengthening the region’s economy.”

“The Economic Development Administration works closely with communities to create forward-thinking opportunities to solidify the area’s economy,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. “This project will provide road, water, and sewer infrastructure to the Dumas Business Park, providing space for new and expanded businesses to allow the city to diversify its economic base and create new jobs for skilled workers.”

“Thank you to the Economic Development Administration for this investment that will help improve the Dumas Business Park,” said Governor Greg Abbott. “The people of Dumas will have access to greater economic opportunities as a result of this grant, and I look forward to working alongside the Dumas Economic Development Corporation in their continued efforts to grow business and innovation in the panhandle.”

“While Texans persevere as COVID-19 wreaks havoc on our state, we must take steps to ensure that our communities are equipped to weather the storm,” said Senator John Cornyn. “I applaud this announcement and will continue to do everything I can to make economic growth in Dumas a high priority.”

This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission (PRPC). EDA funds PRPC to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
