WASHINGTON - U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo today announced the grantees of the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) 2021 University Center Economic Development Program Competition. EDA is providing a total of $2.5 million in grants to 25 colleges and universities in 17 states and Puerto Rico to administer programs to leverage their assets, promote innovation and strengthen regional economies.

Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $4 million grant to the city of Detroit, Michigan, to reconstruct deteriorating roads in support of an automobile manufacturing plant that will begin producing all-electrical vehicles. This EDA project, to be matched with $6.7 million in local funds, is expected to create 810 jobs, retain 300 jobs, and generate $45 million in private investment.

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $830,123 CARES Act Recovery Assistance grant to the Southeast Nebraska Development District, Lincoln, Nebraska, to capitalize and administer a Revolving Loan Fund, providing gap financing to small, local businesses in Butler, Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, Johnson, Lancaster, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, Polk, Richardson, Saline, Saunders, Seward, Thayer, and York counties. This EDA grant, to be matched with $207,531 in local investment, is expected to create 25 jobs and generate $2 million in private investment.

This EDA project, to be matched with $2.75 million in local funds, is expected to create 127 jobs, retain 314 jobs, and generate $160,000 in private investment.
