This EDA investment funds the first year of a five-year University Center Economic Development Program at the Pacific Business Center Program at the University of Hawaii. The PBCP will focus on (1) supporting regional commercialization efforts (50%), (2) advancing high-growth entrepreneurship (10%), (3) cultivating innovation (10%), (4) business expansion in a region's innovation cluster (20%), and (5) developing a high-skilled regional workforce (10%). The PBCP’s scope of work will be in the three areas of providing technical assistance, conducting research, and disseminating information about and the results of the PBCP’s economic development activities, with the overall goal of economic diversification and the creation of higher-paying, higher-skilled jobs in broad cluster industries in the State of Hawaii, and the development of new industries and a private sector economy in the AAPI.
