Spotlight: $587 Available in EDA Funds Available to Aid Communities Impacted by Natural Disasters in 2017
In April, Secretary Ross announced that EDA had published the FY18 Disaster Supplemental Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) making $587 million available to eligible applicants in communities where a Presidential declaration of a major disaster was issued under the Stafford Act as a result of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, wildfires and other natural disasters in 2017.
EDA disaster grants will be made by its Regional Offices under the agency’s Economic Adjustment Assistance (EAA) Program, which enables EDA to make awards that support a wide range of construction and non-construction activities in areas which experience sudden, prolonged, and severe economic dislocation.

Success Story: EDA’s Regional Innovation Strategies Program Working to Build and Scale High-tech, Innovative Businesses to Create Jobs and Strong Regional Economies
Launched in 2014, EDA’s Regional Innovation Strategies (RIS) Program is a national grant competition that has helped support and amplify the best organizations, practices, and resources local communities are using to help their entrepreneurs build and scale high-tech, innovative businesses in order to create new jobs and strong regional economies.
EDA looks forward to launching the 2018 RIS competition in the near future.

Highlight: Wisconsin’s St. Croix Business Innovation Center Opens to Great Fanfare

On Thursday, April 12, the St. Croix Business Innovation Center in River Falls, Wisconsin, opened its doors for business following a grand opening ceremony attended by business, academic, and government leaders from throughout the region.
EDA Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Dennis Alvord spoke at the event and was honored to cut the ribbon to open the impressive new facility in which EDA invested $1.4 million in Public Works Program funds to help build.
