FIRE & ICE is designed to boost regional economic development in Erie County, Pennsylvania. FIRE & ICE features three interrelated components designed to attract, retain, and expand 21st century companies in Erie County: the FIRE Accelerator, ICE Angel Education, and the ICE Angel Fund.
FIRE & ICE aligns with the economic development goals of the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership (ERCGP), as outlined in its five-year strategic plan, Erie Forward. Erie Forward is a $5.2 million initiative and capital campaign designed to stimulate economic growth. Objectives in the plan include the creation of 2,000 new high-paying jobs and $200 million in investment in Erie’s target industries (life sciences, high value-added manufacturing, food and beverage processing, farming technology, and year-round experiential recreation).
To meet the goals of Erie Forward, ERCGP is committed to growing the FIRE Accelerator. Entering its fourth year, the FIRE Accelerator already features a portfolio of 20 tech-enabled and scalable companies from all over the world. ERCGP and the Erie entrepreneurial ecosystem have provided support to portfolio companies, including technical assistance, strategic connections, and introductions to potential customers. However, Erie continues to struggle to retain these high potential companies. FIRE & ICE will help fill the gap in the investment ecosystem – growth capital. By partnering with national organizations, FIRE & ICE will educate and cultivate a network of angel investors and develop the ICE Angel Fund to provide growth capital to FIRE Accelerator and other high-potential businesses in Erie County.
