The Medical Center of the Americas Foundation (MCA)’s project, “MCA Innovation Center: Activating Tech Entrepreneurship”, will expand program reach and impact, and launch and scale high-tech startups across the county of El Paso. The Innovation Center was launched in 2017 as a vehicle to spur high tech growth through entrepreneurship training and startup development, including a 10-month long training program that provides mentoring, access to laboratory space, business development assistance, intellectual property and regulatory support, and proof-of-concept funding.

This project will build upon and expand the program to remote areas beyond the city of El Paso through partnerships with El Paso County, the City of Socorro and the Town of Anthony. The project will develop a broad-based culture of idea generation as a way to nurture the growth of commercializable ideas, support high-growth startups that have the potential to drive job and value creation in the region, and connect economic development strategies and technology commercialization resources within the county.

By the end of the three-year project period, MCA expects to have recruited 99 program participants, and assisted the launch of 25 startup companies that create at least 20 high-impact jobs.
