The Downstate New York University Center (a collaboration of Hofstra and NYU) will provide technical assistance to entrepreneurs with scalable companies in the early stages, with a focus on veteran entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs operating in distressed communities. The entrepreneurs will participate in a virtual training series, collaborate with faculty and students, and join for networking and instructional events. The Downstate New York University Center will advance high-growth entrepreneurship, promote resiliency, and enhance regional collaborations among academic institutions and ecosystem partners. Entrepreneurs will receive mentorship to grow their companies and students will engage in experiential learning opportunities advised by a professor. The University Center will fill gaps in the ecosystem by expanding our capacity to provide technical assistance and connecting entrepreneurs with continuing support from other sources, and will conduct outreach to NY-based veteran-founded companies, companies in distressed communities, and companies that want to expand in NY. Continuing assistance will be provided through respective entrepreneurship programs, including the Hofstra Veterans Venture Challenge, which provides seed funding and technical assistance to veteran-founded companies, and Veteran Entrepreneurship Training (VET) administered by the NYU VFL, and disseminate the success stories of the University Center.
