EDA announced 5 investments from August 8 – August 15, 2024, totaling $1,543,700 which is matched by $402,000 in local investments. These investments include the following:

  1. $620,000 in two Economic Adjustment Assistance-2023 Disaster Supplemental projects to help regions that are experiencing severe economic distress or other economic hardship resulting from Hurricanes Ian and Fiona, wildfires, flooding, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2021 and 2022.
  2. $423,700 in one Planning and Local Technical Assistance project to strengthen the capacity of local or state organizations and institutions to undertake and promote effective economic development programs.
  3. $100,000 in one Economic Adjustment Assistance-Assistance to Coal Communities (ACC) initiative project to assist communities severely impacted by the declining use of coal. ACC projects support economic diversification, job creation, capital investment, workforce development, and re-employment opportunities.
  4. $400,000 in one Economic Adjustment Assistance project to help communities design and implement strategies to adjust or bring about change to their economy in response to structural damage to their underlying economic base.

 

  • $620,000 in two 2023 Disaster Supplemental projects, matched by $155,000 in local investments, as follows:
    • $300,000 to the University Corporation at Monterey Bay, Seaside-Monterey Division/Monterey County, CA, to support the establishment of the Monterey Bay Small Business Assistance and Resilience Program. The program will provide bilingual technical assistance in business development to underserved communities in Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito counties. In addition, the program will provide foundational business development workshops, one-on-one business advising, one-on-one and group mentoring, and building investment portfolios. The project will help build a reliable access to vital resources to support regional resiliency after future natural disasters and provide long-term sustainable economic growth.
    • $320,000 to the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council, Pinellas Park/Pinellas County, FL, to support developing and hosting a series of hurricane-readiness training exercises across its six-county region. These exercises will convene county emergency management staff, economic development staff, business leaders and small business owners from each county within the Tampa Bay region, including Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco and Pinellas counties in Florida. The project will help make small businesses more resilient to storm events while creating connections and improving communications between economic development and emergency management disciplines to support small business recovery and resiliency.
  • $423,700 in one Planning and Local Technical Assistance project, matched by $107,000 in local investments, as follows:
    • $423,700 to Lafayette County, Lewisville/Lafayette County, AR, to help address the current housing, infrastructure, retail and zoning needs in preparation for the growth of the lithium sector in Lewisville, Arkansas. The county will develop a strategic plan by partnering with a variety of educational institutions, industry partners, federal and state agencies to prepare for the influx of lithium related businesses in the region. The project will assist in the success of lithium extraction and help attract mining adjacent sectors, which will diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
  • $100,000 in one Assistance to Coal Communities project, matched by $40,000 in local investments, as follows:
    • $100,000 to the Richland Economic Development Corporation, Sidney/Richland County, MT, to support developing an economic diversification strategy and new Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for Richland County, Montana, which has been recently impacted by coal-fired power plant closures and natural disasters. The REDC will use the strategies to build the groundwork for increased economic resilience and workforce development throughout the region. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
  • $400,000 in one Economic Adjustment Assistance project, matched by $100,000 in local investments, as follows:
    • $400,000 to the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission, Amarillo/Potter County, TX, to coordinate disaster recovery to assist communities within the region impacted by multiple disasters throughout the Amarillo, Texas region. The efforts will help the communities mitigate the impacts of the devastating disasters and become more resilient to future economic disruptions. The project will help strengthen and stabilize the regional economy.
