EDA announced 3 investments from December 5 – December 11, 2024, totaling $1,055,000 which is matched by $170,000 in local investments. These investments include the following:
- $1,055,000 in three Economic Adjustment Assistance-2023 Disaster Supplemental projects to help regions that are experiencing severe economic distress or other economic hardship resulting from Hurricanes Ian and Fiona, wildfires, flooding, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2021 and 2022.
- $1,055,000 in three 2023 Disaster Supplemental projects, matched by $170,000 in local investments, as follows:
- $600,000 to the Friends of Puerto Rico, Aguadilla/Aguadilla Municipio, PR, to support establishing the RESPOND PR initiative, to engage small business owners affected by Hurricane Fiona and in need of technical training, resilience education, and small business resource support in the area. The project work will help boost economic revitalization and innovation goals in the area by strengthening the local business community. The project will help expand and diversify the region’s economic base and promote economic resiliency throughout the region.
- $80,000 to the city of Monmouth, Monmouth/Polk County, OR, to support conducting a feasibility study for a year-round indoor artisan and farmers market supported by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) farmers in the Mid-Willamette Valley. The feasibility study will identify how to better provide access to locally grown food in economically distressed communities and provide capacity-building resources to BIPOC farmers and producers businesses in the area. The project will strengthen, diversify, and make the region's asset-based agriculture/food business industry and BIPOC small business owners more economically resilient and increase job opportunities throughout the region.
- $375,000 to the Chinle Chapter Government, Chinle Chapter/Apache County, AZ, to support implementing the Vendor Village Project, to complete a 35% preliminary design and environmental assessments for the levee and site development of the Chinle Vendor Village in Apache County. The project will help diversify the Navajo Nation’s economy by developing a multiple artisan vendor site throughout a 19-acre site located at Navajo Route 7. The project will help strengthen the regional economy and support economic growth throughout the region.
