EDA announced 27 investments from June 13 – June 27, 2024, totaling $54,806,882 which is matched by $34,147,519.60 in local investments. These investments include the following:

  1. $41,912,354 in seventeen Economic Adjustment Assistance-2023 Disaster Supplemental projects to help regions that are experiencing severe economic distress or other economic hardship resulting from Hurricanes Ian and Fiona, wildfires, flooding, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2021 and 2022, and to help save/create 5,362 jobs and leverage $1,048,500,000 in private investment.
  1. $10,669,528 in four Public Works projects to help communities revitalize, expand, and upgrade their physical infrastructure, and to help save/create 120 jobs.
  1. $240,000 in one Economic Adjustment Assistance project to help communities design and implement strategies to adjust or bring about change to their economy in response to structural damage to their underlying economic base.
  1. $122,300 in two Planning and Local Technical Assistance projects to strengthen the capacity of local or state organizations and institutions to undertake and promote effective economic development programs.
  1. $1,862,700 in three Partnership Planning projects to support the development and implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy process.

 

  • $41,912,354 in seventeen 2023 Disaster Supplemental projects, matched by $23,258,154 in local investments, as follows:
    • $3,000,000 to Mora County, Mora/Mora County, NM, to support the construction of the Mora County Complex, a 44,000 square foot multipurpose facility designed to house the administrative operations. The project work includes the renovation and completion of office space for staff and local businesses, improvements to parking site drainage, and the implementation of energy efficiency measures. The project will strengthen the regional economy and support economic growth and resiliency throughout the region.
    • $1,850,000 to the city of Las Vegas, Las Vegas/San Miguel County, NM, to support the renovation of an existing road and parking lot in the city’s historic downtown district. The project will assist the city with the planning, design, and construction to revitalize and beautify the Douglas-Sixth Historic District. The project will strengthen the regional economy and support economic growth throughout the region.
    • $500,000 to Luna Community College (LCC), Las Vegas/San Miguel County, NM, to support the development and implementation of a Wildfire Resiliency Training Center on the college’s main campus to support economic diversification and workforce training in the area. The project will provide workforce training along five career pathways related to firefighting, land resiliency, and restoration. The project will create resiliency for future disasters and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $3,000,000 to the Oklahoma Ordnance Works Authority, Pryor Creek/Mayes County, OK, to support expanding the MidAmerica Center of Excellence allowing for workforce training projects that will benefit all tenants of the MidAmerica Industrial Park. The center will serve both as a classroom and training laboratory to help partners from local community colleges, the Cherokee Nation, and the State of Oklahoma to facilitate learning in the area. The grantee estimates that this investment will create 210 jobs and leverage $6.5 million in private investment.
    • $2,683,700 to the city of Perryton, Perryton/Ochiltree County, TX, to support the construction of commercial space for the Rebuild Perryton Incubator project. The incubator will provide businesses whose buildings were destroyed by the Perryton tornado the opportunity to lease affordable commercial space in Downtown Perryton to continue their operations. The project will help address disaster-related vulnerability in the city by guiding future economic development to help strengthen the region's resiliency and ultimately create jobs as well as sustain the local economy.
    • $2,455,259 to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, Mashantucket Pequot Reservation/New London County, CT, to support the Tribe with conducting a comprehensive feasibility study for the Mashantucket Pequot REMIND – Reshoring Essential Medicine Manufacturing project, to determine the overall viability of launching a generic drug production facility. The comprehensive study will help move the project from viability to feasibility, define the product mix based on sound market research, develop organization structures and systems, and conduct the preliminary design of the proposed manufacturing facility and production lines. The project will help lay the groundwork for long-term economic vitality and advance economic resiliency throughout the region.
    • $1,597,060 to the Minnesota West Community and Technical College, Worthington/Nobles County, MN, to help address the growing demand for skilled workers in robotics, fluid power/advanced hydraulics, welding and CNC machining training in southwest Minnesota. The community will purchase and outfit a mobile mechatronics classroom and customized welding trailer to expand manufacturing workforce training at the college’s campuses in Lyon and Nobles counties. The grantee estimates that this investment will create 250 jobs and leverage $1 million in private investment.
    • $4,000,000 to the city of Atlantic City, Atlantic City/Atlantic County, NJ, to support the Fisherman’s Park Pump Station Improvements and Atlantic City Inlets Retrofits projects. The project will support making improvements to include the addition of a mechanical bar screen and a direct power source to the pumping station to prevent trash and debris from flowing out through the pumping station into Gardner's Basin, and the installation of inlet grates at 170 existing inlets in the city. The grantee estimates that this investment will create 165 jobs and leverage $41 million in private investment.
    • $2,240,000 to the Village of Jemez Springs, Village of Jemez Springs/Sandoval County, NM, to support improving wastewater infrastructure to support local businesses in the area. The improvements will help the area increase capacity for businesses after the devasting wildfires in 2023. The project will also help support fire suppression efforts in the wake of future fire events. The grantee estimates that this investment will create 37 jobs and save 200 jobs.
    • $1,000,000 to San Miguel County (SMC), Las Vegas/San Miguel County, NM, to support expanding the SMC Wood Park. The project work includes the construction of a wood production facility and acquiring wood processing equipment. The project will help expand and diversify the region’s economic base and promote economic resiliency throughout the region.
    • $790,000 to the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma, Perkins/Payne County, OK, to support developing and implementing disaster recovery and resiliency strategies in the region. The project will provide technical assistance to establish a model for tribal energy planning and develop an energy-related workforce development program. The project will lay the groundwork for long-term economic vitality and advance economic resiliency throughout the region.
    • $690,346 to the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation, Providence/Providence County, RI, to support developing Ready Set Rhody, a statewide GIS mapping that will identify small business districts that are most vulnerable to flooding caused by storms in the area. The identified districts will receive targeted infrastructure vulnerability assessments and storm and disaster readiness preparedness strategies, which will bolster economic growth and promote economic resiliency throughout the region.
    • $3,953,632 to the URI Research Foundation, Providence/Providence County, RI, to support making renovations for leased space at the 401 Tech Bridge Advanced Materials and Technology Center. The project renovations will provide the center full complement of lab facilities, and flexible work and meeting space for training industry and community partners, which will help promote collaboration between private businesses and public entities for the development of new technologies, products, and processes. The grantee estimates that this investment will create 2,000 jobs.
    • $5,000,000 to the city of Vermillion, Vermillion/Clay County, SD, to support making wastewater treatment facility improvements to provide additional capacity for future industrial growth in the city. The project improvements will reduce reliance on electricity, reducing potential for damage, and increasing the ability for manufacturing and large employers to expand. The project will strengthen the regional economy and support economic growth throughout the region.
    • $1,400,000 to Kleberg County, Kingsville/ Kleberg County, TX, to support developing a 14.5-acre industrial park and transportation hub with a supporting parking lot in the county. The new infrastructure will help boost industrial business growth in response to recent natural disasters. The grantee estimates that this investment will create 2,500 jobs and leverage $1 billion in private investment.
    • $2,664,357 to the Southside Virginia Community College Foundation, Alberta/Brunswick County, VA, to support the construction of an Occupational Technical Center, to provide workforce development training in the region. The project will promote economic resiliency, support economic growth, and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $5,088,000 to the Rappahannock Community College Educational Foundation, Inc., Town of Warsaw/Richmond County, VA, to support the construction of the Health Science Education Center in the county. The new center will allow the college to recruit, train and retain health professionals and build a pathway for continuing education opportunities. The project will bolster economic growth and advance economic resiliency throughout the region.
  • $10,669,528 in four Public Works projects, matched by $9,926,390.55 in local investments, as follows:
    • $1,500,000 to the city of Conway, Conway/Faulkner County, AR, to support the construction of off-site water improvements to facilitate operations of new industrial facilities in the Conway Industrial Park. The project will provide improved fire flow to Conway residents and aid in re-development of Central Landing, the former site of the Conway Municipal Airport. The project will increase economic opportunities for the community, support the future expansion of existing companies, and recruit new industries into the area, which will advance economic resiliency throughout the region.
    • $500,000 to the Eastern Shore Entrepreneurship Center, Town of Easton/Talbot County, MD, to support the purchase and positioning of two 40ft modular laboratories and the acquisition of two large capacity bioreactors and lab equipment for each of the two modular laboratory units in Easton, Maryland. The project will generate an environment that can serve as a catalyst for unprecedented regional economic growth to help stabilize the regional economy.
    • $4,600,000 to the Village of Watkins Glen, Village of Watkins Glen/Schuyler County, NY, to make water system improvements, to include the rehabilitation of Watkins Glen’s water storage tank and pump station, replacement of water lines, and other water infrastructure improvements needed to increase capacity for the local business community. The grantee estimates that this investment will help create/save 120 jobs.
    • $4,069,528 to the city of Danville, Danville/Danville County, VA, to support the construction of a new aviation training facility. The new 12,532-square-foot training facility at Danville Regional Airport will support aviation maintenance and flight instruction training activities. The project allows for the expansion of business operations, which will help enhance economic growth throughout the region.
  • $240,000 in one Economic Adjustment Assistance project, matched by $60,000 in local investments, as follows:
    • $240,000 to the Southern Oklahoma Development Association, Durant/Bryan County, OK, to support the hiring of a disaster recovery staff to assist local communities that were impacted by local severe tornadoes. The project will help the communities mitigate the impacts of the devastating tornadoes and become more resilient to future economic disruptions. The project will help stabilize the regional economy and serve as a catalyst for unprecedented regional economic growth.
  • $122,300 in two Planning and Local Technical Assistance projects, matched by $122,300 in local investments, as follows:
    • $72,300 to East Central Iowa Council of Governments, Cedar Rapids/Linn County, IA, to help build regional capacity for cross-organization collaboration in the region. The project will help establish cohorts to assist with community engagement and economic collaboration by developing action plans to drive local economic development strategies. The project will help create an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $50,000 to the Columbia River Economic Development Council, Vancouver/Clark County, WA, to conduct a study identifying parcels of land in Clark County that can be designated and protected for industrial development and business growth. The project will produce a report to inform the county and local jurisdiction on optimal jobs and production capacity of industrial land that can be preserved for economic development purposes. The study will help diversify the local economy, support business development, create new jobs, and promote economic resiliency throughout the region.
  • $1,862,700 in three Partnership Planning projects, matched by $780,675 in local investments, as follows:
    • $1,442,700 to the Commonwealth of Kentucky – Department for Local Government, Frankfort/Franklin County, KY, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Kentucky's Area Development Districts (ADDs), which comprises the counties of Barren River, Big Sandy, Bluegrass, Buffalo Trace, Cumberland Valley, FIVCO, Gateway, Green River, Kentucky River, KIPDA, Lake Cumberland, Lincoln Trail, Northern Kentucky, Pennyrile, and Purchase. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $210,000 to the Piedmont Triad Regional Development Corporation, Kernersville/Forsyth County, NC, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Piedmont Triad Regional Development Corporation, which comprises the counties of Alamance, Caswell, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $210,000 to the Isothermal Planning and Development Commission, Town of Rutherfordton/Rutherford County, NC, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) in the region served by the Isothermal Planning and Development Commission, which comprises the counties of Rutherford, Polk, McDowell, and Cleveland. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
