EDA announced 23 investments from May 9 – May 16, 2024, totaling $17,766,075 which is matched by $44,619,117 in local investments.  These investments include the following:

  1. $13,661,075 in eight Economic Adjustment Assistance-2023 Disaster Supplemental projects to help regions that are experiencing severe economic distress or other economic hardship resulting from Hurricanes Ian and Fiona, wildfires, flooding, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2021 and 2022 and help create/save 720 jobs and leverage $737.5 million in private investment.
  1. $1,300,000 in one Economic Adjustment Assistance project to help communities design and implement strategies to adjust or bring about change to their economy in response to structural damage to their underlying economic base and help create/save 185 jobs and leverage $2.8 million in private investment.
  1. $2,805,000 in fourteen Partnership Planning projects to support the development and implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy process.

 

  • $13,661,075 in eight 2023 Disaster Supplemental projects, matched by $34,738,524 in local investments, as follows:
    • $2,000,000 to the City of Raton; Co-Applicant El Raton Media Works, Inc. Raton/Colfax County, to support with renovating an elementary school building for an all-ages media training center in Colfax County, New Mexico.  The renovations will include measures to make the building code compliant (including structural, ADA, fire safety, and all other applicable codes).  In addition, the renovations will consist of foundation stabilization, structural repairs, restroom reconstruction, plumbing improvements, electric and HVAC improvements, interior renovations, exterior improvements, windows and doors, re-roofing, surface drainage, landscaping and fencing, and the installation of permanent fixtures and upgrades to existing systems.  Once completed, the project will attract private investment, create jobs, and advance economic resiliency throughout the region. The grantee estimates that this investment will help create 35 jobs and leverage $10 million in private investment.
    • $1,140,000 to the Mora County, New Mexico, Mora/Mora County, NM to support with establishing a capacity building and technical assistance project that will provide planning, infrastructure, and staffing to assist in recovery and economic development in Mora County.  Due to current capacity gaps that are restricting recovery in the county after the Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon Fire, this project will help promote community resilience and mitigate the effects of future natural disasters, which will strengthen the regional economy.
    • $800,000 to the Lincoln County, Carrizozo/Lincoln County, NM to support with promoting economic growth and development by providing technical assistance and a comprehensive assessment for disaster recovery in Carrizozo, New Mexico.  The project work will focus on two components: 1) providing technical assistance in recovery efforts in response to recent wildfires, as well as previous fire and flooding events and 2) conducting a comprehensive bridge inspection for assessment and structural integrity and aging of bridges in Lincoln County.  Once completed, the project will strengthen the regional economy and support economic growth and resiliency throughout the region.
    • $3,000,000 to the Tulsa Economic Development Corporation, Tulsa/Tulsa County, OK to support with the renovation and rehabilitation of the Moton Hospital, a historical 9,500 square feet, three-story hospital to provide broad-based entrepreneurial services, meeting space, and tenant opportunities under the Greenwood Entrepreneurship at Moton (GEM) project for the city of Tulsa and the historic Greenwood District in Oklahoma.  Once completed, the project will drive economic growth and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $2,000,000 to the Angelo State University, San Angelo/Tom Green County, TX, to support with leveraging workforce development, recovery and resiliency, and equity by constructing a new educational aviation facility in San Angelo, Texas.  The project will help support business growth following natural disasters.  Once completed, the project will create and enhance the aviation industry’s diversity in high-paying jobs, which will boost economic resiliency throughout the region. The grantee estimates that this investment will help create/save 40 jobs and leverage $7 million in private investment.
    • $2,500,000 to the Texas Biomedical Research Institute, San Antonio/Bexar County, TX, to support with constructing a multi-species veterinary care facility to support biomedical research in San Antonio, Texas.  The facility is being designed to counter the effects of natural disasters and employ redundancy and design elements that enable operation even when regional electrical and communications grid go down. Once completed, the project will lay the groundwork for long-term economic vitality and advance economic resiliency throughout the region. The grantee estimates that this investment will help create 445 jobs and leverage $700 million in private investment.
    • $1,843,700 to the City of Hidalgo   Hidalgo/Hidalgo County, TX, to support the construction of approximately 1,600 LF of roadway and critical infrastructure to support business growth at an industrial park in Hidalgo County, Texas.  The improvements include water, wastewater, stormwater systems and roadway utilities.  Once completed, the project will increase resiliency, mitigate the effects of natural disasters, and promote economic growth throughout the region. The grantee estimates that this investment will help create/save 200 jobs and leverage $20.5 million in private investment.
    • $377,375 to the University of Puerto Rico, San Juan/San Juan Municipio, PR, to support the Center to Foster Innovation and Commercialization at the University of Puerto Rico - Rio Piedras with providing support for companies affected by Hurricane Fiona and other natural disasters through collaborative university-industry projects.  The Center will design an impact-oriented university-industry program with a roadmap on best practices, including recommendations for the appropriate financial structure and sustainability, so the program can be effectively implemented in Puerto Rico.  Once completed, the project will lay the groundwork for long-term economic vitality and advance economic resiliency throughout the region.
  • $1,300,000 in one Economic Adjustment Assistance projects, matched by $2,925,593 in local investments, as follows:
    • $1,300,000 to the City of Seminole Seminole/Seminole County, OK, to support the city of Seminole with constructing an Aviation Education Center that includes transportation and parking facilities, to benefit both the new center and tenants of the adjacent Seminole Airport Industrial Park in Oklahoma.  The project work consists of building four office spaces, two meeting rooms, and restroom facilities.  The Center will house airport administration and classrooms to be utilized by the stakeholders for training and education and allow for a space where students and community members can learn about education, training, and awareness of programs and career possibilities in aeronautics and aviation.  Once completed, the project will help the city grow the relationship with the school and local businesses such as Enviro Systems, which will increase private investment and advancing economic resiliency throughout the region. The grantee estimates that this investment will help create/save 185 jobs to leverage $2.8 million in private investment.
  • $2,805,000 in fourteen Partnership Planning projects, matched by $6,955,000: to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS).  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $210,000 to the Upper Cumberland Development District Cookeville/Putnam County, TN, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Upper Cumberland Development District, which comprises the counties of Cannon, Clay, Cumberland, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Pickett, Putnam, Overton, Smith, Van Buren, Warren, and White.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $210,000 to the Neuse River Council of Governments, New Bern/Craven County, NC, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Neuse River Council dba Eastern Carolina Council, which comprises the counties of Craven, Jones, Pamlico, Carteret, Duplin, Greene, Onslow, Wayne and Lenoir.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $210,000 to the Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments, Wilson/Wilson County, NC, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments, which comprises the counties of Edgecombe, Halifax, Nash, Northampton and Wilson.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $210,000 to the Alamo Area Council of Governments, San Antonio/Bexar County, Texas, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Alamo Area Council of Governments, which comprises the counties of Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, McMullen, and Wilson.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $210,000 to the Southeast Texas Economic Development District, Inc., Beaumont/Jefferson County, Texas, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the Southeast Texas Economic Development District, Inc. region, which comprises the counties of Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, and Orange.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $210,000 to the Capital Area Council of Governments, Austin/Travis County, Texas, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Capital Area Council of Governments, which comprises the counties of Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis, and Williamson.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $210,000 to the Brazos Valley Council of Governments, Bryan/Brazos County, Texas, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Brazos Valley Council of Governments, which comprises the counties of Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson, and Washington.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $210,000 to the Development District of Central Texas, Belton/Bell County, Texas, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Development District of Central Texas, which comprises the counties of Bell, Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Milam, Mills, and San Saba.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $210,000 to the Coastal Bend Council of Governments, Corpus Christi/Nueces County, Texas, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Coastal Bend Council of Governments, which comprises the counties of Aransas, Bee, Brooks, Duval, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleburg, Live Oak, Nueces, Refugio, and San Patricio.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $210,000 to the Northeast Texas Economic Development District, Inc., Texarkana/Bowie County, TX, to support the development of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Northeast Texas Economic Development District, which comprises the counties of Bowie, Cass, Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, Lamar, Morris, Red River, and Titus.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy. 
    • $75,000 to the Metlakatla Indian Community, Metlakatla/Prince of Wales-Hyder Census Area, AK, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Metlakatla Indian Community.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $210,000 to the Deep East Texas Council of Governments, Lufkin/Angelina County, Texas, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Deep East Texas Council of Governments, which comprises the counties of Angelina, Houston, Jasper, Nacogdoches, Newton, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Trinity, and Tyler.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $210,000 to the East Texas Council of Governments, Kilgore/Rusk County, Texas, to support the development and implementation of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the East Texas Council of Governments, which comprises the counties Anderson, Camp, Cherokee, Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Marion, Rains, Rusk, Panola, Smith Upshur, VanZandt and Wood.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy. 
    • $210,000 to the R6 Regional Council, Richfield/ Sevier County, UT, to support the development and implementation of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) in the region served by the R6 Regional Council, which comprises the counties of Juab, Millard, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier, and Wayne.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
