EDA announced 36 investments from September 19 – September 26, 2024, totaling $97,863,084 which is matched by $54,394,117 in local investments.  These investments include the following:

  1. $39,221,098 in twelve Economic Adjustment Assistance-2023 Disaster Supplemental projects to help regions that are experiencing severe economic distress or other economic hardship resulting from Hurricanes Ian and Fiona, wildfires, flooding, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2021 and 2022, and to help create 515 jobs, save 1,666 jobs, and leverage $56.7 million in private investment.
  2. $23,663,152 in eight Public Works projects to help communities revitalize, expand, and upgrade their physical infrastructure, and to help create 533 jobs, save 910 jobs, and leverage $77 million in private investment.
  3. $26,486,706 in ten Economic Adjustment Assistance-Assistance to Coal Communities (ACC) initiative projects to assist communities severely impacted by the declining use of coal.  ACC projects support economic diversification, job creation, capital investment, workforce development, and re-employment opportunities, and to help create 302 jobs, save 50 jobs, create nearly 260 jobs, create more than 500 jobs, create and/or save 50 jobs, and leverage $85 million in private investment.
  4. $8,492,128 in six Economic Adjustment Assistance projects to help communities design and implement strategies to adjust or bring about change to their economy in response to structural damage to their underlying economic base, and to help create 206 jobs and create and/or save nearly 120 jobs.

 

  • $39,221,098 in twelve 2023 Disaster Supplemental projects, matched by $32,714,708 in local investments, as follows:
    • $4,500,000 to the Sitnasuak Native Corporation, Nome, AK, to support making energy infrastructure improvements to bolster the resilience of the region’s economy.  The project will support fortifying existing fuel storage tanks to serve as the region’s primary gasoline and heating oil source.  The grantee estimates that this investment will save 817jobs and leverage $5 million in private investment.
    • $4,963,731 to the city of Page, Page/Coconino County, AZ, to make infrastructure improvements to support business growth and job creation in the area.  The project will support the redevelopment of the Downtown Business District, to increase its commercial viability and promote tourism.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 36 jobs, save 89 jobs, and leverage $1.6 million in private investment.
    • $5,000,000 to the city of Sanford, Sanford/Seminole County, FL, to support reconstructing the existing seawall around Marina Isle to provide a state-of-the-art facility that will increase the seawall height to protect from future flooding and increased intensity of storms in the area.  The project work at Marina Island (aka Marina Isle), a prime downtown development area, is part of a larger ongoing effort by the city to continually improve flood protection for the region.  A portion of Sanford's Marina Isle seawall that has been in place for over 50 years and has been heavily impacted by recent storms.  The reconstruction of the seawall will allow redevelopment to move forward with a better protected facility, which will support regional resiliency after future natural disasters and provide long-term sustainable economic growth.
    • $4,937,900 to the Washington County Board of County Commissioners, Chipley/Washington County, FL, to make infrastructure improvements to the 200-acre Washington County Industrial Park to further support the development of Project Gantry - a new 400,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Chipley, Florida.  The project work includes engineering design, construction inspection and infrastructure improvements.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 100 jobs and leverage $45 million in private investment.
    • $1,029,309 to the Village of Sauget, Village of Sauget/St. Clair County, IL, to support repairing critical wastewater infrastructure along the Monsanto Avenue industrial corridor to recover from severe rain events in 2022, flooding and disrupted operations at several plants in the area.  The grantee estimates that this investment will save 400 jobs.
    • $3,614,173 to the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, Cass Lake/Cass County, MN, to support constructing a 6,100-square-foot rice processing facility on Tribal land that would enable the processing of wild rice, Leech Lake’s only commercially produced product in Cass County, Minnesota.  The new facility will be a source of jobs not only from processing the Band’s rice, but other bands’ as well.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 15 jobs.
    • $4,551,280 to Yellowstone County, Billings/Yellowstone County, MT, to support addressing the local and regional need for critical infrastructure by extending existing water and wastewater lines from the unincorporated community of Lockwood into the recently established Lockwood Targeted Economic Development District, a few miles northeast of Billings, Montana.  The project will encourage business development while increasing disaster resiliency through the extension of water and sewer services to an area that relies on private wells and septic systems along the Yellowstone River.  The project will promote resiliency, mitigate the effects of natural disasters, and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $694,127 to the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez, Mayaguez/Mayaguez Municipio, PR, to support implementing a post-awards grant management technical assistance program in the area.  The project will support disaster resiliency for small businesses by providing technical assistance in the awards process.  The project will help build a reliable access to vital resources to support regional resiliency after future natural disasters and provide long-term sustainable economic growth.
    • $705,578 to Iniciativa Technologica Centro Oriental, Inc., Caguas/Caguas Municipio, PR, to support increasing disaster resilience for small businesses in Central Puerto Rico through the operation and expansion of a Business Response and Recovery Center.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 324 jobs, save 360 jobs, and leverage $1.7 million in private investment.
    • $725,000 to the city of Centerville, Centerville/Turner County, SD, to support constructing a new water tower and to support manufacturing business growth in the area.  The project will help provide a more sustainable, resilient, and economically viable community.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 30 jobs and leverage $1.4 million in private investment.
    • $5,000,000 to the Jackson Energy Authority, Jackson/Madison County, TN, to support the installation of a new sludge drying system for the Miller Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant.  The project will make wastewater infrastructure improvements needed to attract and retain businesses to the area.  The project will help mitigate the effects of natural disasters and stimulate economic growth throughout the region.
    • $3,500,000 to Rosebud Economic Development Corporation, Mission/Todd County, SD, to support constructing a manufacturing workforce training facility on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation.  The facility will contain space for manufacturing, offices, and classrooms for an integrated workforce development program.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 10 jobs and leverage $2 million in private investment.
  • $23,663,152 in eight Public Works projects, matched by $11,691,407 in local investments, as follows:
    • $2,400,000 to the city of Moreno Valley, Moreno Valley/Riverside County, CA, to support making water infrastructure improvements to support business expansion and job creation in Riverside County, California.  The project work includes expanding the drainage system to support local businesses in the area.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 3 jobs and save 480 jobs.
    • $2,942,483 to the Dublin Laurens County Development Authority, Dublin/Laurens County, GA, to support making drainage, water, sewer and road improvements to serve an automotive parts supplier.  The project work includes extending a sewer line, constructing a new access road, and constructing a regional detention pond.  The improvements will lead to the creation of jobs, attract private investment, and support business development throughout the region.
    • $2,483,800 to the city of La Porte, La Porte/La Porte County, IN, to support making water infrastructure improvements to support manufacturing business growth in the area.  The project will provide critical infrastructure upgrades at the Thomas Rose Industrial Park, supporting business expansion and job creation in the area.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 185 jobs, save 230 jobs, and leverage $50 million in private investment.
    • $681,130 to the city of Story City, City of Story/Story County, IA, to make infrastructure improvements to support the regional manufacturing sector.  The project will provide water and sewer upgrades at the I-35 Business Park, supporting business expansion and job creation in the area.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 35 jobs and leverage $6 million in private investment.
    • $1,000,125 to the Independence Community College, Independence/Montgomery County, KS, to support constructing a new welding training facility at the college to provide training and certifications for welders in Montgomery County, Kansas.  The project will help support skilled trade workforce development in the area.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 10 jobs and leverage $1 million in private investment.
    • $1,524,511 to the Butler and Warren County Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Trust Fund, Hamilton/Butler County, OH, to support constructing the Butler Warren County Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Center, a 19,900-square-foot electrical trades training facility in Liberty Township, Ohio.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 300 jobs, save 200 jobs, and leverage $20 million in private investment.
    • $11,271,697 to the Piedmont Technical College, Inc. dba Piedmont Technical Education Commission, Greenwood/Greenwood County, SC, to support the construction of a new building on the College’s Greenwood campus to house the College’s Health Sciences programs.  The project will support healthcare workforce development in the region.  In addition, the project will promote entrepreneurship and business development, create jobs, attract private investment, and strengthen the regional economy. 
    • $1,359,406 to the city of Hohenwald, Hohenwald/Lewis County, TN, to support the rehabilitation of an existing off-line water well site to provide dependable, safe water that meets the needs of local businesses in the area.  The project will help businesses grow, which will strengthen the regional economy and provide long-term sustainable economic growth.
  • $26,486,706 in ten Economic Adjustment Assistance-Assistance to Coal Communities (ACC) projects, matched by $6,724,348 in local investments, as follows:
    • $3,402,000 to the McDowell County Public Service District, Princeton/Mercer County, WV, to support making water infrastructure improvements needed to attract and retain businesses in Welch, West Virginia.  The project work includes installing new waterlines and all associated work in the Baker Ridge, Panther Creek Road, Rock Ridge, Lex areas of McDowell County.  The project will help the region create new job opportunities to boost economic development, diversify the local economy, and advance economic resiliency.
    • $4,000,000 to the Boone County Public Service District, Danville/Boone County, WV, to support making waterline extension improvements at the Mountain State Clean Energy complex in Danville, West Virginia.  The project work includes the construction of a water line, a booster station, a water storage tank and appurtenances to serve the Rock Creek Development Park.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create more than 500 jobs and leverage $10 million in private investment.
    • $3,801,600 to the Wyoming County Economic Development Authority, Pineville/Wyoming County, WV, to support expanding the Rockefeller Industrial Park in Welch, West Virginia.  The project work includes the construction of approximately 15,000 SF pre-engineered metal building with two 15-ton cranes and appurtenances.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create and/or save 50 jobs and leverage $1 million in private investment.
    • $2,506,500 to the Kingwood Water Works, Kingwood/Preston County, WV, to support making water infrastructure improvements in Preston County, West Virginia.  The project will construct approximately 6,500 LF of water main, to include service lines, meters, fire hydrants, valves and appurtenances.  The project will help the region diversify its local economy and advance economic resiliency to an area that has been impacted by the decline in the coal industry.
    • $1,536,000 to the Northern Wyoming Community College District, Sheridan/Sheridan County, WY, to support providing equipment for Sheridan College to deliver hands-on training to students in advanced manufacturing and construction trades in Sheridan, Wyoming.  The project will help boost advanced manufacturing and construction trades workforce development in the region.  In addition, the project will help the region create new job opportunities to boost economic development, diversify the local economy, and advance economic resiliency.
    • $1,484,275 to the Town of Spruce Pine, Town of Spruce Pine/Mitchell County, NC, to support replacing water lines and associated hydrants and appurtenances along NC Hwy 226 in existing NC DOT right-of-way.  The project will enhance water availability to support expansion of healthcare jobs and will support fire suppression for several other area businesses in Mitchell County, North Carolina.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 30 jobs and leverage $15.7 million in private investment.
    • $2,372,756 to the city of Brevard, Brevard/Transylvania County, NC, to support making water and sewer infrastructure improvements to support the biotechnology manufacturing sector following tropical storm activity in North Carolina.  The project work includes the construction of a force main sewer line and pump station, and the extension of ductile iron water main and a fire hydrant.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create nearly 60 jobs and leverage $55 million in private investment.
    • $675,000 to the Enhancing and Strengthening North Dakota Nonprofits and Communities (dba Strengthen ND), Minot/Ward County, ND, to support constructing a regional processing facility for local foods in Baldwin, North Dakota.  The project work includes providing classrooms, kitchen facilities, and warehouse space to help boost agricultural production in the region.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 47 jobs and leverage $1.8 million in private investment.
    • $1,979,455 to the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MNSCU) dba Minnesota North College, Hibbing/St. Louis County, MN, to support MNSCU System’s Minnesota North College with the procurement of two mobile laboratories for use in HVAC and welding training programs.  The two new laboratories will be equipped with state-of-the-art training equipment and will be available to different campuses as needed.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 225 jobs, save 50 jobs, and leverage $1 million in private investment.
    • $4,729,120 to the city of Richmond, Richmond/Madison County, KY, to support making building renovations to support substance abuse workforce development in Madison County, Kentucky.  The project work includes renovating a former school to create a residential substance use disorder recovery and workforce training center in an area that is heavily plagued by the drug epidemic.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create nearly 200 jobs and leverage $1 million in private investment.
  • $8,492,128 in six Economic Adjustment Assistance projects, matched by $3,263,654 in local investments, as follows:
    • $797,512 to Blue Ridge Community and Technical College, Martinsburg/Morgan County, WV, to support creating and integrating a new Commercial Driver's License (CDL) certification program in the area.  The program will help enhance the utility workforce training for the counties of Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create and/or save nearly 120 jobs.
    • $1,020,000 to Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene/Taylor County, TX, to support purchasing equipment necessary to extend the Nursing Simulation Education Workforce Center in Abilene, Texas.  The new project equipment will help modernize educational offerings in the nursing and healthcare education programs.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 206 jobs.
    • $2,500,000 to the city of Barnsdall, Barnsdall/Osage County, OK, to support reconstructing a spillway at the Waxhoma Lake Dam to encourage business growth and resiliency in the area.  The project work includes making infrastructure improvements to support business development in the region.  The project will boost the local economy, which will stabilize and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $1,000,000 to Three Rivers College, Poplar Bluff/Butler County, MO, to support procuring equipment for the new Bootheel Technical Training Center to support hands-on workforce training in electrical, HVAC, manufacturing, and welding trades in Missouri.  The project will help promote building trades workforce development in the region, which will generate an environment that can serve as a catalyst for unprecedented regional economic growth.
    • $1,004,000 to the Maysville Community and Technical College (MCTC), Maysville/Mason County, KY, to support making building renovations on MCTC’s Mount Sterling/Montgomery County campus.  The project will support workforce development in the welding industry.  The project will help increase the region’s capacity to grow new businesses that will attract private investment and strengthen the regional economy. 
    • $2,170,616 to the School District of Manatee County, Bradenton/Manatee County, FL, to support the design, engineer, and construction of an aviation maintenance hangar located at the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) adjacent to and in support of its Aviation Maintenance Technician School, which will provide workforce training in Aviation Airframe Mechanics and Aviation Powerplant Mechanics.  The hangar will provide the necessary space to provide hands-on training to approximately 96 students per year.  The project will help to diversify the Manatee County economy and generate an environment that can serve as a catalyst for unprecedented regional economic growth.
