EDA announced 19 investments from September 26 – October 3, 2024, totaling $60,105,592 which is matched by $45,908,589 in local investments.  These investments include the following:

  1. $27,884506 in six Economic Adjustment Assistance-2023 Disaster Supplemental projects to help regions that are experiencing severe economic distress or other economic hardship resulting from Hurricanes Ian and Fiona, wildfires, flooding, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2021 and 2022, and to help create 300 jobs and leverage $65 million in private investment.
  2. $13,084,438 in six Public Works projects to help communities revitalize, expand, and upgrade their physical infrastructure, and to help create 3,794 jobs, save 320 jobs, create and/or save 175 jobs, and leverage $190 million in private investment.
  3. $13,658,648 in four Economic Adjustment Assistance-Assistance to Coal Communities (ACC) initiative projects to assist communities severely impacted by the declining use of coal.  ACC projects support economic diversification, job creation, capital investment, workforce development, and re-employment opportunities, and to help create 899 jobs, create and/or save 550 jobs, and leverage $548 million in private investment.
  4. $5,478,000 in three Economic Adjustment Assistance projects to help communities design and implement strategies to adjust or bring about change to their economy in response to structural damage to their underlying economic base.

 

  • $27,884,506 in six 2023 Disaster Supplemental projects, matched by $26,111,690 in local investments, as follows:
    • $2,998,103 to the Mayfield Kentucky Industrial Development Authority, Mayfield/Graves County, KY, to support constructing a makerspace to provide entrepreneurs and small business owners much needed resources and space to start and grow their business ideas in the area.  The project will focus on five main areas: metal work, 3D printing, embroidery, woodworking, and computers/electronics.  The project will help build a reliable access to vital resources to support regional resiliency after future natural disasters and provide long-term sustainable economic growth.
    • $9,494,029 to the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, St. Augustine/St. Johns County, FL, to design, engineer, and construct a workforce training center in Hastings, Florida.  The center will have two programs, Solar and Alternative Energy (SAE) and Diesel System Technician (DST).  In addition, the center will include classrooms and lab space for each program, facilitating a hands-on experience.  The project will boost economic resiliency, which will strengthen the regional economy and support economic growth throughout the region.
    • $6,198,776 to the Kissimmee Utility Authority, Kissimmee/Osceola County, FL, to support making utilities infrastructure improvements to support the semiconductor manufacturing industry in the area.  The project work includes the design and construction of two new hybrid underground transmission circuits to replace segments of their existing overhead transmission line.  The project will help the NeoCity region create a more resilient community and assure continuity of businesses and residential operation to strengthen the regional economy.
    • $6,000,000 to the city of Shepherdsville, Shepherdsville/Bullitt County, KY, to make upgrading an existing wastewater treatment plant to address operational challenges, wet weather deficiencies, and capacity for withstanding severe weather events in the area.  The project will allow for growth in the manufacturing sector by providing the necessary infrastructure to serve business-ready sites.  The project will lay the groundwork for long-term economic vitality and advance economic resiliency throughout the region.
    • $1,193,598 to the city of Sumter, Sumter/Sumter County, SC, to support making critical wastewater system improvements to help the establishment of a new solar wafer manufacturing facility in the area.  The upgrades will help boost the region’s clean energy industry.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 300 jobs and leverage $65 million in private investment.
    • $2,000,000 to the Town of Canton, Town of Canton/Haywood County, NC, to support making water and stormwater enhancements to mitigate future flooding in the area.  The project work includes modifying the existing raw water intake’s side stream inlet, replacing the existing high service pumps, and installing a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to improve communication between the water storage tanks.  The project will help lay the groundwork for long-term economic vitality and strengthen the regional economy.
  • $13,084,438 in six Public Works projects, matched by $9,102,237 in local investments, as follows:
    • $3,120,000 to the Bedford County Utility District, Shelbyville/Bedford County, TN, to support constructing 21,000 linear feet of 12-inch water main along Unionville Deason Road and a water booster station to provide uninterrupted water supply to the 231 Industrial Park.  The project will bolster job creation, support the future expansion of existing companies, and recruit new industries into the area, which will advance economic resiliency throughout the region.
    • $1,475,000 to the city of Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids/Kent County, MI, to support constructing a pre-engineered steel frame and curtain wall burn building for the Grand Rapids Fire Department to help regional workforce development efforts for the next generation of firefighters in the area.  The project will provide reliability and resiliency of emergency services, which is a key factor in businesses’ decisions to expand and locate to this region.  The new firefighter training field and live-fire burn tower will be used by firefighter trainees associated with Grand Valley’s training program and firefighters from across the West Michigan region to learn cutting-edge firefighting techniques.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 300 jobs.
    • $2,073,500 to the city of West Lafayette, West Lafayette/Tippecanoe County, IN, to support increasing the wastewater treatment capacity for the Purdue Research Park.  The project work includes the expansion of an existing regional lift station and a larger force main.  Industrial expansion in the park is limited by the existing wastewater capacity and expanding the Park’s wastewater capacity will help generate new economic activity.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 400 jobs and leverage $20 million in private investment.
    • $2,596,888 to the New Garden Park, Inc., Worcester/Worcester County, MA, to construct new roadway and making improvements to existing roadway and associated public utilities infrastructure including gas, electric, telecommunications and stormwater drainage in the area.  The improvements will serve new manufacturing development sites for a 51-acre campus and establish frontage for several sites, providing pad-ready development sites within a 28.8 acre.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 2,904 jobs, save 320 jobs, and leverage $20 million in private investment.
    • $1,629,450 to the city of Adrian, Adrian/Nobles County, MN, to support making upgrades to the City’s electrical system to ensure greater resiliency in the face of future disasters in the area.  The project work will increase electrical system reliability to help sustain business operation in the region.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create and/or save 175 jobs.
    • $2,189,600 to the Brownsville Energy Authority, Brownsville/Haywood County, TN, to support constructing 20,250 linear feet of waterline along Windrow Road to provide adequate dependable water delivery infrastructure to the I-40 Advantage Industrial Park in Haywood County, Tennessee.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 190 jobs and leverage $150 million in private investment.
  • $13,658,648 in four Economic Adjustment Assistance-Assistance to Coal Communities (ACC) projects, matched by $8,957,662 in local investments, as follows:
    • $3,625,000 to the city of Harbor Beach, Harbor Beach/Huron County, MI, to support constructing a higher capacity watermain to serve the regional water system and large industrial users in the area.  Following the closure and demolition of a coal-fired power plant located in the heart of Harbor Beach, this site redevelopment and supporting infrastructure including the expanded watermain will support business growth in the region.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create and/or save 285 jobs.
    • $3,878,360 to the Northern Plains Heritage Foundation, Bismarck/Burleigh County, ND, to support the transformational renovation of Bismarck’s Keelboat Park into the Bismark Riverfront Park and Festival Grounds along the Missouri River.  The project work includes constructing new public infrastructure (sewer, water, parking lot) and buildings (offices, concessions, restrooms) that will help the region’s economic diversification and economic resilience vision.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 211 jobs and leverage $80 million in private investment.
    • $3,181,288 to the Benedum Airport Authority, Bridgeport/Harrison County, WV, to support the construction of four parking lots and appurtenances in Bridgeport, West Virginia.  The lots will be divided into a short-term parking lot, long-term parking lot, employee parking lot and rental car parking lot.  All parking areas will have sidewalk access and overhead lighting for safety and include stormwater management.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create and/or save 265 jobs and leverage $8 million in private investment.
    • $2,974,000 to Greene County, Bloomfield/Greene County, IN, to support expanding capacity at the WestGate at Crane Technology Park in Odon, Indiana.  WestGate is a key regional economic employment center where displaced coal and energy workers find job opportunities.  Improved water and wastewater capacity will be key to future growth at WestGate.  The project work includes the installation of a new water main and all associated appurtenances.  The grantee estimates that this investment will create 688 jobs and leverage $460 million in private investment.
  • $5,478,000 in three Economic Adjustment Assistance projects, matched by $1,737,000 in local investments, as follows:
    • $2,758,000 to Goodwill Industries of Kentucky, Inc., Louisville/Jefferson County, KY, to support expanding and renovating the existing Goodwill Opportunity Center to add an additional 3,600 sq. ft. of workforce development space that will accommodate delivery of workforce education and skills training in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  The project impact will enhance future economic sustainability, strengthen the regional economy, and bolster economic resiliency throughout the region.
    • $1,920,000 to Logan Industrial Development Authority, Inc., Russellville/Logan County, KY, to support constructing a 2-lane industrial asphalt roadway, including drainage and lighting, as well as extending a water line and gravity sewer main at the West Industrial Park.  The project will support the aluminum manufacturing sector, which will help generate an environment that can serve as a catalyst for unprecedented regional economic growth.
    • $800,000 to the Industrial Commons, Morganton/Burke County, NC, to support equipment acquisition and the hiring of personnel to learn, train, and provide outreach to regional firms about the beginning of pilot production for the growth of circular textiles in the area.  The project will help expand the local textile production industry, which will address the region’s demand for more highly skilled workers and contribute to more employment opportunities for the region’s workforce.
