The University of Kansas (KU) University Center (UC), KU for KS, is a collaboration between the KU Center for Entrepreneurship (KUCE) and the Institute for Policy & Social Research (IPSR). KU for KS leverages KU’s unique assets in faculty and staff expertise, student workforce, and information resources to accelerate economic growth in Kansas and the Midwest in innovation and high-growth entrepreneurship. The UC will maximize employment and economic impacts by expanding successful programs and starting new initiatives in entrepreneurship. KU for KS is uniquely qualified to nurture the regional economic ecosystem, applying the entrepreneurial strength of the KUCE to technical assistance efforts (80%) with the information resources of IPSR to applied research (20%). The proposed UC will have a 75% focus on business development and supporting the region’s biosciences innovation cluster and technology commercialization efforts and a 25% focus on entrepreneurship among high potential demographics (university students, staff, and faculty). Sustainability and resiliency will be achieved by saving small businesses (RedTire), fixing existing businesses (Jayhawk Consulting), and developing new ventures (Commercializing University Research through Entrepreneurship, CURE).
